Introduction

PIMS (Project Information Management System) is best described as a concept for information sharing and storage in projects. It is designed to satisfy management information needs, as well as meeting project requirements for detailed data capture.

PIMS includes functionality for both technical and commercial information, and benefits from the ability to produce joint reports. It supports use across traditional organizational interfaces and promotes interaction between multiple parties in a project.

Implementation

PIMS is specifically designed for implementation through custom fitting. Its basis consists of a data model, definitions and philosophy. Client needs defined through roles and responsibility, business practices and project requirements are incorporated using additional connected registers, reporting and terminology. The Pims concept is highly scaleable, and fits multi billion NOK oil field developments.

PIMS is built in modules and has all the functional requirements for a total project control system. However, in some settings adequate systems are already implemented. Since PIMS is built up using modules and easy to integrate with other systems, it allows the project to choose only those modules required.

Factory Acceptance Test

Factory acceptance test (FAT) is an inspection and testing activity to check and make sure that the equipment has good quality (physic and work). This test can be done in the place that it is assembled or built.This test also to check and fit with specification of equipment. This test sometimes is done before equipment will be shipped.

Factory acceptance test have to be attended by user, vendor and customer. That is fair. Every one should know about status of equipment. Customer as buyer, user as people that use it and vendor as assembler or creator. All of attendant have to know and agree.

But this test not always have not to be 100 % clear, because suit with acceptance between vendor, customer and user can be tested again after arrive in the place, and vendor can repair and make sure again in other time.

This procedure shall be attended by vendor and customer, and have to accepted by both.

In installation step, by contractor or anyone, this document have to be referenced and should be attached in dossier as a note of installation step.

PIMS CMS : Preservation

Introduction

Preservation is the preventive maintenance carried out on equipment before it is taken into operation. In order to follow up preservation activities in accordance with manufacturers requirements (important to maintain guarantee validations) and in an organised manner, the PIMS CMS Preservation module has been developed and used successfully on a number of projects. The PIMS CMS Preservation module is used for the administration of the periodic preservation requirements of equipment and systems and to record preservation status and history.

Highlights

The PIMS CMS Preservation module allows the user to define the preservation requirements and the start date for preservation to commence. Based on the periodic intervals set for each preservation activity, PIMS CMS will generate a weekly report of preservation actions. The PIMS CMS preservation module contains a suite of preservation checklists but also contains a user friendly interface for inputting additional checklists and vendor requirements.

The PIMS CMS preservation system includes:

Setup of Preservation Maintenance checklists
A user friendly interface for editing checklist content, input of additional checklists and vendor requirements. To the right is an example of a preservation checklist for Electric Motors.

Activate items in the preservation programme (i.e. start preservation date)
A direct access to Engineering/Mechanical Completion data source makes it easy to include/add tags to the preservation program. Simply fill in data like preservation start, checklist and responsible. The ‘Stop Preservation’ field controls when the object is deleted from the preservation program.

Produce the weekly preservation work lists
In the ‘Weekly Worklist’ form, a ‘Common Task’ generates the list for the selected period. Reports showing the data can be printed directly from the form (see example).

Input preservation status and any negative findings. After the inspection round, any negative findings must be registered in PIMS CMS along with reason identified.
The findings are categorized as category A or B. When a finding is corrected, it is just a matter of entering a cleared date.

Produce/issue weekly and monthly preservation reports.
PIMS CMS Preservation offers several reports for weekly and monthly reporting. E.g. Preservation Status By Commissioning Pack or Module, Preservation Findings By Commissioning Pack or Module.

PIMS CMS : Mechanical Completion

Introduction

The overall goal of Mechanical Completion (MC) is to verify and document that equipment, facilities and systems are built in accordance to specifications, design drawings, Rules and Regulations and other contract specific requirements.

Highlights

Pims CMS (Completion Management System) has been developed to computerize this process and help ensure a smooth and timely handover to Commissioning in accordance with the project plan.

The PIMS CMS module bases its strategy on a foundation of engineering data (in the form of engineering registers, indices and schedules etc.). The relevant data is imported into PIMS CMS to establish a master dataset of the total object listing for the work.

Main features of PIMS CMS module:

• Web and MS Access user interface
• Comprehensive range of MC Certificates that can be printed directly from the system – pre-printed with tag numbers, tag descriptions etc. Available for printing in bulk. E.g. Commissioning Package or MC Package

PIMS CMS : Engineering

Introduction

The PIMS CMS Engineering module provides an effective platform for the development of engineering registers. Typical registers include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Line List
• Isometric Register
• Instrument Index
• Cable Schedule
• Equipment Register
• Loop Register

Highlights

Engineering data can be registered directly into PIMS CMS, or be imported from other systems/file formats. Import routines are best created at the beginning of a project to ensure a stable and consistent import format. PIMS CMS can integrate or receive information from all major engineering systems. Engineering departments utilizing external systems, for some or all of their registers, can normally provide export files in Excel or .mdb format.

Automatic imports from other Engineering systems can be set up by a PIMS CMS System Engineer.

The PIMS CMS Engineering module has a user friendly interface for importing data to engineering registers, which can then be further uploaded to the PIMS CMS completion system. The engineering data import interface carries out the following activities automatically:

• Copies fields from the import data to pre-mapped fields  in PIMS CMS
• Detects new, deleted and updated data
• Provides the user with reports showing the changes
• Tag Validation, Syntax, required fields
• Mechanical Completion discrepancy reports available through the Query System

The timing for performing imports is project specific and can vary depending on the level of completion and stability of the engineering data.
